WELD COXE, is emeritus founding principal of The Coxe Group, the oldest and largest organization of management consultants serving exclusively architects and other professional design firms. Mr. Coxe studied at Harvard College and became active in the design community in 1960. He is the author of Managing Architectural and Engineering Services (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1980) and Marketing Architectural and Engineering Services (Krieger Publishing, 2nd Edition, 1984), and co-author of Success Strategies for Design Professionals: SuperPositioning for Architectural and Engineering Firms Krieger Publishing, Reprint Edition, 1992).
In education, Mr. Coxe currently holds an appointment as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He served for five years on the adjunct faculty of the Department of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania, where he taught a career planning course: The Design of Design Organizations. In addition, he has taught the Management of Design Firms summer program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. From 1990 to 1993 he and his late wife, Mary Chapman Hayden, co-chaired a work group of the International Union of Architects researching World Trends in Private Practice in 20 countries of North America, Europe and Asia.
In 1976 he was elected an Honorary Member of The American Institute of Architects. He is a certified member of the Institute of Management Consultants, and a Fellow of the Society for Marketing Professional Services.
In civic affairs he serves on the boards of the Sophia G. Coxe Charitable Trust; the Historical Society of Pennsylvania; and Cathedral Village, a retirement community in Philadelphia.
Mr. Coxe became emeritus principal of The Coxe Group in 1994. He lives on Block Island, Rhode Island.
